12/17/21, Second Alarm Garage + Wildland Fire, 586 Rockville Road, Jackson Township
At 1:23 a.m. on Friday, December 17, 2021, York County dispatch struck box 11-05 on the 500 block of Rockville Road in Jackson Township for what was initially reported as a mountain fire threatening a home. While units were en route, police in the area began advising they could see a large fire on the mountainside. First arriving units quickly discovered a fully-involved two-story detached garage back a long driveway, and immediately struck the working fire dispatch followed by a second alarm assignment due to having both the structure and two acres on fire. Before arrival of additional resources, first arriving units were forced to split their efforts, with the two acres of forest burning around the fully-involved garage and threatening homes. Command requested additional tankers and brush units, committing Engine 32-1 back the long lane to begin fire attack. Water supply was established using tanker shuttles at the end of the driveway to supply the fire attack, with several hundred feet of four-inch carrying the water up the driveway to tanker 11 to supply brush units and Engine 32-1. Engine 505 handled the fill site. Firefighters knocked down the garage fire and contained the mountain fire, and then worked for around three hours to mop up hotspots. No injuries were reported. The Red Cross was requested for canteen services for roughly 50 firefighters on scene. Chief 140 had command. Assisting Nashville Volunteer Fire Department on the call included Northeast Adams Fire & EMS, Dover Township Volunteer Fire Department, Friendship Hose Company of Spring Grove, Porters Volunteer Fire Company, Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company, United Hook & Ladder, Paradise Township Fire Department, North Codorus Township Fire Department, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Pleasant Hill Volunteer Fire Department, Union Fire & Hose Company of Dover Borough, Southern Area Fire and Emergency Rescue, Heidlersburg Fire Company, West Manchester Township Volunteer Fire Department, Eastern York County Forest Fire Crew, Lifeteam EMS, Tri-Community Ambulance, Seven Valleys Fire Company, and Loganville Fire Company.
